When we first announced the Virtual Microphone System, a single large diaphragm condenser mic that could sound like the most sought after vintage and modern tube mics, the industry went pretty nuts.
A lot of people were really excited and anxious to hear it, and naturally, many people were also quite skeptical.
How can you really capture the essence and vibe of these famous mics? What about the off axis response? Proximity effect? The 3D qualities?
Well, all the questions were answered last month when we did a soft launch in the USA.
We got the microphones into the hands of real audio engineers, many of whom were able to compare them to the real mics they modeled, and expensive reissues.
