I’m locked in to Sibelius at the moment, making more adjustments to my piece for two pianos. Today, it has been about the details of the articulation and phrasing. These details are so important to bring out the range of colours of the piano. I have also been editing a number of melodic parts, adding some fast, scalic motion, for variation in particular passages. It works well to encircle the syncopation, which is very clearly defined at this point in the piece and provides a fluid and graceful juxtaposition to the driving rhythms.
I also added an octave glissando at the end of a phrase, which bridges two very contrasting bars. I was able to make the glissando sound very realistic using a plugin I found when I was writing the harp part in an orchestra piece that was performed in April. You select the two notes either side of your glissando marking and apply the plugin, producing a very convincing result. You can also specify the harp tuning that is being used.
